Today, AI is live across Wherefour. Our customers can ask questions about their entire operation using the AI products they already know and love. With this available, AI now takes the first pass at the most tedious parts of building a compliance program. If you're new to Wherefour, we run inventory, production, and purchasing like any manufacturing ERP, but we build every part of it with compliance in mind, so the records you need for an audit are built into everyday work, not pulled together at the last minute.
We took our time getting here, on purpose. I want to explain why, because how we built this matters as much as what we built.
Manufacturers Can't Afford Careless AI
Right now, a lot of software companies are racing to ship AI that acts on its own. Agents that place orders. Assistants that update records. AI-generated platforms that promise to give you advice on what to do and will "run" your business automatically.
That pitch sounds fantastic until you remember what an ERP actually holds. In most software, a wrong AI answer might be just an inconvenience. In an ERP, it can release the wrong lot, order the wrong ingredient, misstate the value of your inventory or cause you to spend precious cash on material you don't actually need. And when an auditor or a customer asks questions, it's your name on the certificate of analysis, not AI's.
Many of our customers make consumer products ranging from food, supplements, beverages, cannabis, or cosmetics. Others make products used by other businesses. Either way, these products ultimately end up in the hands of families like yours. Our customers have spent years earning the trust of their customers, fellow businesses, and regulators. We're not willing to put that at risk to say we shipped some hot, new AI features.
What We Built
Ask anything about your operation. With the new Wherefour MCP Connector, you can link Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI tool to your Wherefour account and ask questions.
You get immediate insight from your own, real data.
AI where compliance work piles up. AI now drafts test definitions and control points from a simple prompt definition, and it reads documents, like a COA, you upload and suggests how to tag it. Setup that used to take hours of typing now starts with a first draft.
The Rules We Hold Ourselves To
Every AI feature in Wherefour follows four rules:
Nothing switches on until you choose.
Every AI feature is off by default. Your admin decides when to turn it on.
AI drafts. People decide.
Anything AI creates waits for your team's approval before it's used.
Outside tools can read, never write.
The MCP Connector is read-only. Your AI tool can look at your data, but it can't change anything.
We're most careful where the stakes are highest.
Compliance is where a wrong answer costs the most, so it's where we built AI in most deliberately.
Careful Is How You Actually Move Faster
Some people hear "careful" and think "slow." I think it's the opposite. If your team can't trust what AI hands them, they'll redo the work by hand, and the time savings disappear.
When people can trust the way AI can be leveraged, they will use it. They will ask more questions and they will hand off more of the mundane work. That's where real speed (and convenience) comes from.
What's Next
This is a starting point. We'll keep adding AI one step at a time, starting with the places where we can do it well and without interruption to your business.
AI is worth having. The guardrails are worth keeping. We're building Wherefour to give you both.
Sincerely,
P.S. If you're a Wherefour customer, these features are available to you today. Ask your admin to switch them on, or reach out to our support team. If you're not a customer yet, book a demo and we'll show you how it works on your own data.
