Recently I had the opportunity to learn about an innovative business named The Dairy Free Company, co-founded by Beth Meany and Eric Hurwitz. If the word “substitute” springs to mind when you hear “dairy free”, let that notion slip right on by! This company makes delicious plant-based dips and spreads from clean, sustainably-sourced ingredients. Their plant-derived goods are the product of original, flavorful recipes designed to be shared by everyone (and I mean everyone!). The website lists such labels as USDA Organic, Kosher, Non-GMO, Gluten Free, and Vegan so you can feel good about what you’re eating!

The Dairy Free Company intends exactly that! Their website says, “…all of our flavors are original recipes that can be enjoyed by anyone. Our products look good, taste good and they make you feel good.” Feeling good is something everyone could use right about now. However as 2020 continues to unfold, the pandemic is testing companies and The Dairy Free Company is no different. Beth was contacted to see how The Dairy Free Company has been faring and what their biggest challenge in the coming year will be:

“Growing a business during a Pandemic. We operate in the Retail Grocery sector and it’s currently not business as usual, meaning it’s difficult for retailers to find the bandwidth to cut in new products on the shelf.”

This is not detouring The Dairy Free Company from making their mark in the industry. As they continue producing healthy and delicious spreads/dips for consumers, Beth believes patience and aspiring for what is right (not easy) will lead to their success in the food industry. She admires Zac Rheinberger, a Cleveland Central Kitchen Food Hub team member, for his demonstration of these qualities.

“Zac has hands in every aspect of the business which requires him to be a mini expert in a wide array of areas including food safety, manufacturing efficiency and marketing. He has to use both sides of his brain as the people he interacts with in these disciplines are left brainers, right brainers and a combination of both. He is also a really nice guy…”

Though there are challenges on the horizon, I have no doubt The Dairy Free Company will prevail.
